Mountain Communities Conference 2005: Speakers
Bob Aitken
Bob Aitken is a freelance research consultant and writer. Following from his PhD on wilderness areas in Scotland at Aberdeen University (1977), Bob has pursued various consultancy studies on wild land and protected areas, including a recent review of wild land conservation across Europe. Another highly practical strand of his activity has been nearly 20 years of footpath management — applied recreation ecology — on Scotland’s hills.
Incurably addicted to mountains, mountaineering literature and history, Bob is a volunteer with a range of recreation and conservation NGOs. He has served on assorted Scottish government committees and the UK executive committee of IUCN. He is a member of WCPA, and a founder member of the board of Scotland’s first national park, at Loch Lomond and the Trossachs, set up in 2002.
