Shannon Gordon is
Sustainability Coordinator, Resort Municipality of
Whistler.Shannon’s work in the sustainability
field began with VanCity Credit Union’s Corporate
Social Responsibility Group, where she managed
VanCity’s social and environmental audit and
reporting process – one of the first of its kind in
Canada. Based on leading international auditing and
reporting standards (AccountAbility 1000 and the
Global Reporting Initiative), the process had
Shannon managing a comprehensive stakeholder
engagement process, internal social and
environmental accounting processes, and the
development of performance indicators and the
externally verified, public report.
Shannon now works with the Resort Municipality of
Whistler on various sustainability initiatives,
including the "Whistler. It’s Our Nature"
community sustainability program and the integration
of sustainability principles into the local
government organization (both guided by The Natural
Step framework). Shannon is an active participant in
the community planning process aimed at developing
Whistler’s comprehensive sustainability plan, and is
serving on the board of the Association of Whistler
Area Residents for the Environment (AWARE).
