Peter W. Williams |

Peter Williams is
Director, Centre For Tourism Policy and Research,
Simon Fraser University. He is a tourism resource
planner and market researcher who works on projects
related to mountain and backcountry tourism
development. His experience with managing the
challenges of mountain tourism development extends
over three decades. It has engaged him in academic
and professional assignments around the globe. His
work has helped pioneer numerous methods for
assessing the expected behaviours of global travel
markets and their potential impacts on mountain
tourism businesses, communities and surrounding
environments. As Director of the Centre for Tourism
Policy and Research, his research focuses on
developing strategies for creating more sustainable
forms of tourism development. While his primary
laboratory is Canada’s Coastal and Rocky Mountains,
his academic research linkages extend to the
mountainous regions of the United States, Asia,
South America and Europe. Dr. Williams is a past
President of Travel and Tourism Research Association
– an international organization dedicated to
promoting excellence in tourism research. He
currently sits on the CEO Research Advisory Board of
Tourism British Columbia, and is a member of the
Board of Governors of the Royal Canadian
Geographical Society. |
