Pam Doyle: “Curious Sled Dog, Canmore, Alberta”
“While photographing the action at the 2005 Alberta International Sled Dog Classic on the frozen Spray Lakes above Canmore, Alberta, I noticed this image. It seemed to jump out at me. I was taking a break from lying on top of the vast frozen lake photographing the sled dog teams race on a very cold (-20° Celsius) winter day in February. I took a wander through the ‘barking lot’, where the dogs not involved in a race wait patiently for their turn in their kennels insulated with straw. This intelligent dog was particularly interested in the action on the lake below. It was not barking, but its beautiful blue eyes stared out of its kennel, absorbed with the races. The dogs are well cared for and are only left in their kennels for short periods of time. They have a passion for racing and love to pull their sleds.”
