Morten Rygaard: Silvretta Nova

Morten Rygaard: Silvretta Nova

“Silvretta Nova is situated in the Montefon area in Austria not far from Ischgl and St. Anton. A snow storm had left more than 50cm of powder snow and the next day the sky was clear and the riders from Team-beyond and I had skipped breakfast to be the first to go off-piste in the virgin snow and down the perfectly groomed slopes. At the end of the day I took the lift to go for one last ride and was overwhelmed by the striking transformation of the mountain. The imprints of the vast number of skiers and snowboarders cut through the slope and looked like old scars on the soft mountain surface.”

Though born in the flats of Denmark, Morten Rygaard has a life-long passion for mountains and spends every European winter in the Alps with his professional free-ride team, Team-beyond. He is also a trained mountain climber and is known to go to extremes to get the perfect shot of nature above the clouds. His work has been shown in exhibitions throughout the country and photos from his expeditions in the Alps, Caucasus, Alaska, and the rest of the world has been published in the book Extreme from 2005. Since 2007, Morten Rygaard has been an ambassador for Nikon.
