Alice Friman, born in New York City, is professor emerita of English and creative writing at the University of Indianapolis. Published in ten countries and anthologized widely, she has produced eight collections of poetry, including Inverted Fire (BkMk 1997) and Zoo (Arkansas 1999), winner of the Ezra Pound Poetry Award. Among Friman's other awards are three prizes from Poetry Society of America and fellowships from the Arts Council of Indianapolis and the Indian Arts Commission.
