Jerry Longboat is a Cayuga/Mohawk from the Iroquois Confederacy, Six Nations of the Grand River, in Ontario, where he was born into the Turtle Clan. He was raised both on and off thereserve, and has sung and danced traditionally from an early age. Longboat received a B.F.A. degree in Visual Arts from the University of Michigan. He has worked as a visual artist, graphic designer, actor, storyteller, and performance artist. He dances with the Karen Jamieson Dance Company in Vancouver, where he was in the original production of Shattered Space and Stone Soup Project, a collaborative process with with the Git’Gisan people of Northern British Columbia. Longboat has been on the faculty of Aboriginal Arts at The Banff Centre. Contributor to: |
