Roberta Rees grew up in the Crowsnest Pass, a coal-mining community in the Rocky Mountains of southern Alberta. She now lives in Calgary where she teaches creative writing. Her first book, Eyes Like Pigeons (Brick Books 1992), won the Writers Guild of Alberta Stephan J. Stephannson Award for Poetry and the League of Canadian Poets Gerald Lampert Memorial Award. Her most recent novel, Beneath the Faceless Mountain (Red Deer 1994), won the Alberta New Fiction Competition and the Writers Guild of Alberta Georges Bugnet Award for Fiction.
