Paul Seesequasis is co-publisher of
7th Generation Books, an Aboriginal publishing house in Toronto. A
mixed-blood writer originally from Saskatchewan, Seesequasis was
editor of the magazine Aboriginal Voices in 1995 when it won
the Overall Excellence Award for Best Native Publication at the
Native American Journalist Association Awards.
Besides his work as a journalist, Seesequasis has published poetry
and short stories. In 1997, his short stories were included in Grant
Street’s collection All American, and An Anthology
of Canadian Native Literature in English, from Oxford University
Press. He recently finished his first novel, Indian Wars.
Seesequasis uses his writing to explode the myths and clichés of
the “Indian” stereotype. He is carving out a new
“post-Indian” genre based on the imagery of humour and the
trickster.
