Russell Smith grew up in Halifax and lives in Toronto. He is the author of the novels How Insensitive (Porcupine's Quill 1994) and Noise (Porcupine's Quill 1998). His most recent book, the story collection, Young Men (Doubleday 1999), was shortlisted for the Toronto Book Award and the Danuta Gleed Literary Award. A widely published journalist, he writes the weekly "Virtual Culture" column in the Globe and Mail. His next book, The Princess and the Whiskheads, will be published by Doubleday Canada in 2001.
