Most of the stories in Michael Winter's Creaking in their Skins (Quarry Press 1994) were edited in the Writing Studio (1993). Winter is also the author of the story collection One Last Good Look (Porcupine's Quill 1999) and a yet-to-be-published journal of personal observation, This All Happened. "The Distance" originally appeared in Event. Winter lives in St. John's, Newfoundland, where for six years he co-edited TickleAce, and is now at work on a novel, Must.

Michael has been on the faculty of Writing & Publishing at The Banff Centre.
