Quentin Playfair began his career in 1971 with Juliet Barker in Cambridge, UK. In 1975 he emigrated to Toronto where he worked with George Heinl & Co. for ten years before establishing an independent practice.

Mr. Playfair has taught at the Cambridge Summer Violin Making Course since 1980. He now devotes most of his time to the making of new violins and cellos. His knowledge and advice on restoration, repair, and instrument making is sought by his clients, his peers and by a new generation of violin restorers.
