Program Information

This large-scale summit is hosted by a different city every second year. In June 2012 Alberta will welcome artists, cultural workers, scholars, critics and students to The Banff Centre, a globally respected arts, cultural, and educational institution and conference facility located in the beautiful Canadian Rocky Mountains. SOURCE is a partnership between the IMAA, Film & Media at The Banff Centre, the National Indigenous Media Arts Coalition, the Alberta Media Arts Alliance Society, New University Television, Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers, Quickdraw Animation Society, and EMMEDIA. SOURCE will be an unprecedented gathering, sure to generate a tremendous level of community, inspiration, and media attention.

The theme “source” stems from the Banff springs and flows through multiple interpretations including source of creativity and ideation which is the foundation from which all media artists and administrators work. In June 2010, the IMAA held its national conference ON Fire in Toronto, ON, which looked at the burning issues within the media arts. Water as a metaphor will respond to this by dousing its delegates in outstanding keynotes, interactive discussions, film screenings, performances, and media art installations in various venues at the Banff Centre.

À tous les deux ans, cet événement d’envergure est organisé par une ville différente au Canada. En juin 2012, l’Alberta accueillera des artistes, des travailleurs culturels, des chercheurs, des critiques et des étudiants au Banff Centre. Situé dans le cadre enchanteur des montagnes rocheuses du Canada, le Banff Centre est une institution artistique, culturelle et éducationnelle respectée de tous, donnant accès à des salles de conférences. SOURCE est réalisé en collaboration avec l’AAMI, le Film & Media au Banff Centre, la Coalition nationale des arts médiatiques autochtones, Alberta Media Arts Alliance Society, New University Television NUTV, Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers, Quickdraw Animation Society et EMMEDIA Gallery & Studios Society. SOURCE prévoit un rassemblement sans précédent qui saura générer l’attention de la communauté, de l’industrie et des médias.

De la thématique « Source » découle de multiples interprétations comme les sources thermales de Banff ou la source d’inspiration et de créativité qui est au cœur du travail des artistes et des travailleurs culturels. EN JUIN 2010, L’AAMI TENAIT SA CONFÉRENCE NATIONALE INTITULÉE ON FIRE qui portait sur les problématiques ‘brûlantes’ des arts médiatiques. De manière métaphorique, l’eau répondra au feu en submergeant les délégués avec des conférenciers de marque, des discussions interactives, des projections de films, des performances et des installations en arts médiatiques dans plusieurs lieux du Banff Centre.
