Thomas Hayden left oceanography for journalism a dozen years ago. A former staffer at Newsweek and US News & World Report, he writes about science, environment, and culture. His work has appeared in National Geographic, Smithsonian, Wired, The Washington Post, The Globe and Mail, and many other publications. He is coauthor of two books, On Call in Hell and Sex and War. Hayden teaches environmental journalism and writing at Stanford University, and frequently participates in writing and media training courses for scientists.
