Tony Whittome

Faculty Editor

Tony Whittome is editorial director of Hutchinson and an editorial director of Random House UK. He edits fiction, non-fiction, and poetry, and has served on the boards of both the Poetry Society and, under Philip Larkin, the Poetry Book Society. On behalf of the charity the Koestler Trust he judges scripts, gives awards and advises writers in British prisons and special hospitals. Among the authors he has edited at Random House are Kingsley Amis, Anthony Burgess, Frederick Forsyth, Martin Gilbert, Joanna Trollope, Hugh Thomas, and John Keegan. He is particularly interested in writing on climbing, travel, natural history, ecological issues, and the outdoors. His current authors include Andy Cave, Maria Coffey, Andy Kirkpatrick, Bernadette McDonald, Kieran Mulvaney, Jim Perrin, Joe Simpson, Stephen Venables, and Simon Yates. Tony has worked with Marni Jackson on the Mountain Writing Program since its inception.
