BNMI Liminal Screen Co-production Residency: Technical Line Producer Work Study

Program dates: February 17, 2010 - March 31, 2010

Application deadline: December 04, 2009

Program Information

The Banff Centre's Banff New Media Institute (BNMI) is seeking a Technical Line Producer Work Study program participant to live and work in the Canadian Rockies while supporting the Liminal Screen Co-production Residency. The Liminal Screen Co-production Residency examines the ambiguity, openness, and indeterminacy of cinema in current new media practice. Working with peer advisors and technicians, participants in this residency are invited to work independently or collaboratively to focus on questions of screen-based work that is in transition.

Applicants to this internship-style work study opportunity should have experience in line producing media projects; strong oral and written communication skills; excellent organizational abilities; proven ability to multi-task; and a passionate interest in production for television, audio, and interactive media. Areas of work during this work study opportunity include artist technical support, resource scheduling, and assistance with technical research and production.

A strong technical background and knowledge of pre-production, production, and post-production in video, audio, interactive media production, word-processing applications, and the Internet are required. Working knowledge of the principles of multimedia installation and audio visual setup would be a considerable asset. Experience with sensor technology and electronics is desirable but not required. Participants must be available to work weekends and evenings as required.

As the Banff New Media Institute Liminal Screen Co-production Technical Line Producer Work Study, you will:

  • Facilitate technical line production of multiple Co-production projects simultaneously.
  • Troubleshoot all in house Co-production technical needs and provide strategic communication and information flow to the relevant people and departments associated with the Liminal Screen Co-production. This will include regular liaison with the other Co-production Line Producer.
  • Facilitate Banff Centre resources for video production and post-production, interactive media, audio, and research projects.
  • Become familiar with the individual Co-production projects, contracts, and schedule to ensure proper and efficient use of time including adherence to all budgetary and resource-based parameters.
  • Contribute to artist/client relations, prior to and during production, including technical preparation, resource allocation, scheduling, communications, and production schedules.
  • Working alongside the Digital Film & Media Production Department’s Lead Programmer, you will assist in the prototyping and creation of artist projects.
