About Mountain Writing
In this unique residency program, six participating writers delve into their own writing projects (essay, memoir, biography, feature article, or book project) on a topic in the area of mountain culture, mountain environment, mountain life, adventure, climbing, and/or mountain history.
Within the spectacular environs of Banff National Park, the residency offers participants the time, privacy, and editorial resources to focus on their proposed pieces. Writers participating in the program will work in a diverse and creative environment, interacting with other mountain writers and editors in group discussions and individual consultations, as well as with invited guest speakers and artists from other fields.
The Banff Centre campus is situated amid the Canadian Rocky Mountains in Canada's first national park — an ideal location for a residency that explores the mountain experience. In addition to working on their writing projects, participants have the opportunity for outdoor pursuits including hiking, rock and ice climbing, cross-country and downhill skiing, and photography.
Extend your stay after this program and continue your work at the Centre. Self-directed writing residencies run year-round, and provide you with the time and space for focused work. For more information, see Self-directed residencies.
All programs, faculty, dates, fees, and offers of financial assistance are subject to change. Non-refundable fees and deposits will be retained upon cancellation. Any other fees are refunded at the discretion of The Banff Centre.
