Transformation — The 30th Banff
Midsummer Ball Weekend

(July 17 – 19, 2009)

“I first went to The Banff Centre in 1975, and it changed my life forever…I am standing on the very stage where I was given my first opportunity, as an eager teenager, to perform a concerto with orchestra…It was the most important opportunity of my life…”

Jon Kimura Parker,
pianist, participant, Music programs on performing at The Banff Centre’s 2008 anniversary Gala concert

An Event Unlike Any Other

This highly anticipated weekend affair is a must on the social calendars of many of Canada’s leaders, attracting more than 300 guests and raising in excess of $590,000 in 2009. Offering inspiring social, cultural, and recreational activities in an unparalleled UNESCO World Heritage site, the Ball is one of Canada’s most unique and illustrious fundraising events.

Funds raised through the Ball Weekend support scholarships for top artists from across Canada and around the world to attend The Banff Centre’s unrivalled professional development programs.

On July 17-19, 2009 “Transformation — The Banff Midsummer Ball Weekend” celebrated the power of artistry and creativity to transform our communities and the world we live in. From Friday afternoon golf at the scenic Fairmont Banff Springs, to Friday night’s Food Festival and Cabaret, to Saturday night’s black-tie Gala Ball, to Sunday’s President’s Brunch, guests enjoyed a taste of creative history, today’s innovations and tomorrow’s possibilities.

Feature performances for the 2009 Ball Weekend included Banff Centre alumni and friends like Juno Award-winning and Grammy-nominated Cuban pianist Hilario Duran and bassist Roberto Occhinpinti. Guests enjoyed exclusive access to world-class creative experiences rooted in The Banff Centre’s disciplines of the arts, mountain culture, and leadership development. Among others, adventurer, journalist and author Maria Coffey hosted a private presentation for Ball guests speaking about her latest book Explorers of the Infinite — one of Oprah Winfrey’s 2008 Soul Series “best reads of the summer.”

Invitations for the 2010 Banff Midsummer Ball Weekend to be held July 23-25 will be mailed in April 2010. An early commitment is recommended as tickets are limited.
