Papermaking Studio
Proposals for papermaking or paper/fiber-based projects are submitted through
application to the
Creative Residencies. Artists who apply for these programs
have 24-hour access to the papermaking studio and should have at least an
introductory level of experience in the area(s) they plan to produce work.
The Print and Paper Facilitator leads artists through a mandatory studio orientation that covers WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) and studio equipment training.
History
The papermaking studio has been maintained since the early 1970s and was a significant part of The Banff Centre’s Fibre Arts Programs throughout the 1980s. The papermaking studio has sustained its operation over the past 20 years, and continues to support artists-in-residence. Open to participants who apply to the Creative Residencies Programs, the papermaking studio supports contemporary artistic practice in both two-dimensional and three-dimensional paper art forms. The dye facilities adjacent to the papermaking studio provide additional equipment and space for textile and fibre dyeing.
