Happy Valley: David Acheson and Lorna
Mills
October 26 - December 15, 2002
Happy Valley
is about surface
and depth. Slick and happy, the surfaces of the work smooth over the crisis
beneath. Consciously using cultural references and a play on recognition,
the artists seduce the viewer into what appears to be a playful world only
to question the values of this world and realities entrenched there.

Mapping Territories
August 2 - October 13, 2002
Artists Delia Cross Child, Faye HeavyShield,
Frederick McDonald and Lionel Peyachew introduce us to
their home territories. Although born and living within Treaty
areas 6, 7 and 8, they articulate contemporary Aboriginal
perspectives within a distinctly "post-Treaty" context that
underscores deep personal and cultural connections. The exhibition
becomes a collective map connecting history and community with
place.

Sentient Circuitry
June 10 - July 21, 2002
Sentient Circuitry,
an exhibition of robotic sculpture and objects from popular culture,
explores both the technological and metaphorical impact of robots on Western
culture. The exhibition probes several themes related to robotics such as
artificial intelligence, the post-human landscape and science fiction.

Clay: Imaginary Standard Distance
April 13 - May 26, 2002
This exhibition is a mid-career retrospective of the work of
Vancouver-based artist Allyson Clay. It is texturally rich and includes
artworks ranging from painting to video. Clay's work is both seductive and
challenging, negotiating the margins between curiosity and voyeurism that
is currently receiving widespread attention in popular culture.
