Lighting tracks are suspended from floating tracks and fall just below this height.
Note: There is an additional metre of open space above wall height which houses air duct work and other piping. This area is not recommended for use.

    (Exterior relative humidity in winter may be extremely low in Banff, therefore we maintain gallery levels at 40% for most exhibits. Works entering the gallery in that time period have normally been acclimatized to a drier atmosphere and to subject them to standard 50% relative humidity would be an unacceptable fluctuation. In cases where works arrive in a controlled-atmosphere truck, the relative humidity may be increased at any time to meet prevalent conditions).

Security

  • The gallery keeps hygrothermographic charts which staff check on a regular basis.
  • Mechanical maintenance: staff perform daily checks on thermostats, humidistats and other air control equipment and are on duty on a 24 hour basis to respond to any emergency.
  • While open, the gallery employs surveillance staff who oversee the exhibition area and assist the public.
  • While closed, the gallery is protected by a security system consisting of microwave motion detectors and door contact switches.
  • Security personnel carry out regular facility checks both outside and inside the gallery premises.
