2016 Banff Playwrights Lab

The 2016 Banff Playwrights Lab has concluded after three exciting weeks of intensive, inspiring theatre-making. Our participants this year were a group of diverse artists exploring theatrical form and playwright-driven interdisciplinary approaches to creating new plays.

Creation Residency

Created by Niall McNeil, Marcus Youssef, James Long and Veda Hille
Produced by Neworld Theatre (Vancouver)

Niall McNeil is an accomplished actor and writer. His life experience also includes Down syndrome. King Arthur and His Knights is a radical reexamination of the creative process and – we think - a kick in the crotch to our assumptions about difference. It’s created from the point of view of an artist with Down syndrome, with original songs and music by Canadian alt-songstress diva Veda Hille, with a band made up of musician boy-men in their early 20s. The cast itself will be a mix of actors both with and without Down syndrome.
