Terry McDonell is the author of The Accidental Life: an Editor’s Notes on Writing and Writers, a collection of wild literary tales about his life as the founding editor of Outside, and his experiences as editor of Rolling Stone, Sports Illustrated, Newsweek and Esquire. In a conversation with Mountain and Wilderness Writing Program faculty editor Marni Jackson, McDonell talks about working with Edward Abbey, Jim Harrison, Hunter S. Thompson, James Salter and other greats – as well as his recent involvement as a co-founder of the digital journal, LitHub.
