Featuring readings by writers from the Writing Studio with special guest faculty Canadian author Kevin Chong and Associate Program Director and Canadian poet, Karen Solie
Karen Solie was born in Moose Jaw, grew up in southwest Saskatchewan, and now lives in Toronto. She is the author of four collections of poems. Her third, Pigeon, won the 2010 Pat Lowther Award, Trillium Poetry Prize, and the Griffin Prize. A volume of selected and new poems, The Living Option, was published in the U.K. by Bloodaxe Books in 2013, and is a Poetry Book Society Recommendation. Her most recent collection, The Road In Is Not the Same Road Out, was published in 2015 in Canada by House of Anansi Press, and in the U.S. by Farrar, Straus, and Giroux. Her work has appeared in journals and anthologies in Canada, the U.S., the U.K., Europe, and Australia, and has been translated into French, German, Korean, and Dutch.
Kevin Chong is the author of six books of fiction and nonfiction, most recently the novel The Plague and the biography Northern Dancer. His writing has recently appeared in The Rumpus, The Guardian, The Globe and Mail, the Times Literary Supplement, and the . He teaches creative writing at the University of British Columbia and The Writers' Studio at Simon Fraser University. He lives in Vancouver with his family.
