Partnership with Athabasca

PowerED™ by Athabasca University and Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity are forging a new partnership that will enable the Banff Centre to digitally transform the Project Management for Indigenous Organizations program for online delivery.

Banff Centre, located within Banff National Park, is a champion of arts and creativity, and integrates the power of the arts with the wisdom of Indigenous practice. When the COVID-19 pandemic began, Banff Centre had to put in-person programs on hold while finding a solution for offering programs and events online.

Inspiring artists and leaders to make their unique contribution to society is the mission of Banff Centre; therefore, ensuring programs could still be delivered was a priority. This partnership will enable Banff Centre to transform Project Management for Indigenous Organizations to an online format, and provide additional instructional design support for web-conferenced courses.

Digital delivery of programming is completely new to Banff Centre. Based on feedback from our community and past participants, we see this as an opportunity to further share the power of our programming, rooted in our home in Treaty 7 territory, in an accessible, affordable, and online format. We are excited to learn from this experience alongside PowerED™ by Athabasca University as a new way to offer the relevant and impactful programming to our communities that they have come to expect from us, and we are known for.

Alexia McKinnon, Associate Director of Indigenous Leadership at Banff Centre

Program Management for Indigenous Organizations is one of several core programs within Banff Centre’s Indigenous Leadership offerings. This fall, the program will run from September 21 to November 2, offered to participants who would have attended the program on campus in the Spring if not for the COVID-19 pandemic.

Project Management for Indigenous Organizations helps translate the language of project management into the systems and worldview of Indigenous wisdom, to find a common understanding between the theory and the application of it in communities.

PowerED™ is excited to partner with Banff Centre to transform one of their face-to-face courses into an enriched, high-quality digital offering. We look forward to collaborating with Banff Centre on this initiative, as well as any future initiatives that may meet the needs of the learners, and that will bring together the strengths of both of our organizations.
