Jazz & Creative Music Concert

Join faculty mentor Stephanie Urquhart and participants from the Banff Musicians In Residence program for an evening of musical exploration. Featuring some of Canada's exciting Jazz and Creative Musicians performing works created while in residence.

Stephanie Urquhart

Stephanie Urquhart is a pianist, composer and arranger. The Calgary born Latina-Canadian was raised in an eclectic and multi-cutural environment where she learned to play trumpet, trombone, and later piano, finding music to be her main form of self-expression. Her spontaneity and sensitivity on the piano has been called "engagingly joyous" and "so thoughtful and expressive" (Charlie Austin). She has been hailed for "putting the surprise factor back into smart, new original music." (Edmonton Journal).

Stephanie's debut album, Concealment, was released in 2019 and was nominated for Best Jazz Album by One World Music Awards. Her music has been featured at international events including the 2019 International Jazz Composers' Symposium (IJCS) at the University of Northern Colorado, the 2017 IJCS at the University of South Florida, and the 2017 Earshot Jazz Festival in Seattle, Washington. She won 2nd place in the 5th Annual Jazz Composition Contest for Women Composers in 2017.

Stephanie is co-founder and head arranger of the critically acclaimed Video Game Band, Experience Points, composes for Big Bands throughout North America, and comfortably navigates everything from modern jazz to indie-rock. She is an alumnus of MacEwan University, where she studied jazz piano performance, and composition.

Attending Live Events at Banff Centre

Banff Centre has opted into the Restrictions Exemption Program, so proof of full vaccination, a negative PCR or rapid test result taken within 72 hours of arrival, or original proof of medical exemption will be required to attend all live events at Banff Centre. Masks are also mandatory for all public indoor spaces. Guests staying on campus will be able to use their faculty/artist card or bedroom key as they will have been pre-screened upon check-in at the Professional Development Centre.
