Program Information

Overview

"He who works with his hands is a laborer. He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman. He who works with his hands and his head and his heart is an artist." –Francis of Assisi

Leadership is about taking initiative, which is—in every sense—a creative act. To excel at any creative act, you must work to master your craft. The craft of leadership is working with other humans to create new realities. The journey to mastery involves learning skills common to all leaders while perfecting practices that allow you to enact those skills in your own way. This involves being creative in the ways you engage others, and mindful of how you attain your goals.

Creativity and the Craft of Leadership presents a cohesive set of practices that support participants to improve their leadership craft through the release of their own creativity. Being present and aware in all situations, observing and engaging with intent, and understanding the relationships between your actions and those of others are all practices that enable leaders to anticipate, prepare for, and navigate our complex world.

What does the program offer?

  • Learn reflective practice in action—the skill of continuously improving the quality of your engagement with other people
  • Learn and experience the practices central to the “craft” of leading
  • Discover principles of creativity—how to stay connected to your senses and suspend judgement
  • Uncover and discover ways to unlearn your own habits to master the craft of human interaction
  • Explore modes of interaction that are more effective, ethical, and beautiful
  • Experiment with effective ways of seeking insights and practical feedback from others
  • Advance your leadership work as a creative process

Who should apply?

This program is ideal for individuals who aspire to gain mastery in their leadership craft. It is for those who are motivated to not only to overcome what is preventing them from being more creative in their own leadership work but also to develop beautiful and ethical ways of engaging with others.

The program is designed for leaders who wish to complement their rational-analytic skills with reflective practices and aesthetic sensibilities to propel them in their journey. It is open to individuals from across corporate, cultural, community, government, philanthropic and social innovation sectors, and the cohort is likely to have a blend of each.
