High Ropes Course Challenge

This outdoor option is designed to help participants learn more about the powerful relationship between trust, risk, and results. Our high ropes course, a one-of-a-kind facility in Banff National Park, was designed for the exclusive use of Banff Centre guests. This stimulating experience encourages participants to literally step outside their comfort zone, revealing exciting possibilities and areas of unrealized potential. Focused debriefs enhance the session and allow for the extension of learning to the workplace. Certified facilitators and technical experts ensure the safety of all participants. At all times, participants are encouraged to choose their own level of participation.

Orienteering: A Strategic Challenge

This indoor/outdoor activity highlights the value of leveraging the diverse strengths and resources within your team. A fun, engaging and complex challenge, it requires teams to respond to change and ambiguity, while effectively planning and implementing strategy.

The initial planning phase requires teams to develop a strategy to be implemented in the field. During field work, teams apply newly-learned orienteering skills, including GPS systems and other technologies. This activity is artfully designed to address current and relevant challenges your organization is facing. Seasoned facilitators guide the session debriefs to maximize learning, assist in application and highlight links to the workplace.

These sequential creative problem-solving challenges help teams develop a greater understanding of what it takes to become even more effective. Teams communicate, share and develop ideas, and make decisions to creatively solve challenges in an environment of fun and exploration. Activities are carefully designed to meet identified outcomes for the team. These sessions can be delivered inside or outside, depending on the weather. The debrief enhances deep learning, assists in application and links to the workplace.

Nature of Business

As business becomes more global, inter-connected, and complex, it also grows more interdependent. Local guide and Leadership Development Ecologist-in-Residence Keith Webb connects individuals and teams to the outdoors as a means to better understand the “nature” of business sustainability. Teaching systems thinking through concrete examples from nature, his personal passion is understanding how complex adaptive systems function and demonstrating how business can learn from nature. His message is: nature operates through powerful principles which business can tap to create profitable businesses, an abundant economy, and a healthier ecology.

After this session you will be able to:

• Explore the creative aspects of business through an ecological lens
• Apply an ecosystem dynamic to the stages of business growth and development
• Examine the concepts of system thinking
• Experience a unique group nature walk in Banff National Park

Interpretive and Meditative Nature Hike

Our guides have been sharing the stories of the Canadian Rockies with locals and visitors for over 15 years. The challenge to find true reflective space is an ongoing one. This session uses the Canadian Rockies’ natural environment to facilitate dialogue about leadership, future challenges, and personal identity through a profound process of reflection. The program blends drama, storytelling, hiking, tracking lore, visuals aides, and props to inspire people to learn about their surroundings and themselves.

After this session you will be able to:

• Settle into the rhythms of nature
• Renew the body and mind
• Examine profound questions of connectivity and meaning
