Alberta Arts Days

The Banff Centre is proud to take part in Alberta Arts Days, a three-day celebration of Alberta’s arts and culture! Alberta Arts Days is an initiative of the Government of Alberta’s Culture and Community Spirit department and runs September 18, 19, and 20. The aim is to connect communities across Alberta to the creative energy of the arts, and to experience the vibrant cultural scene. Alberta Bound

A selection of artists' books from the collection of the Paul D. Fleck Library and Archives will be on display, featuring works about Alberta and by Alberta artists.

Readings from Aboriginal Writers

Marilyn Dumont and Daniel David read alongside writers and storytellers in residence at The Banff Centre. Marilyn Dumont is an award-winning Alberta writer of Cree/Métis ancestry. Daniel David is an award-winning Mohawk writer, storyteller, and journalist, who has worked in many prestigious posts around the world, including Denmark, Indonesia, and South Africa.

Art Walk

This one-hour tour will visit the Walter Phillips Gallery's current exhibition of recent works by the London-based artist Silke Otto-Knapp, plus a visit to many of the public artworks at The Banff Centre, including Mike Macdonald's Butterfly garden and installations by John McEwan and Peter von Tiesenhausen.

The Banff New Media Institute at The Banff Centre invites you to drop in and take a behind the scenes look at their research labs. See how their research into mobile media extends from the lab to the streets of Banff, to the great outdoors.

Voices in the Forest

Take part in an audio tour of the nearby Hoodoo Trail. The tour, created by artist Julie Meyers, invites you to experience the riverside woods from a child’s point of view through a combination of fact and fictional stories collected and scripted with help from the kindergarten students from the Banff Elementary School.

Tours leave every 20 minutes between noon and 3:00 p.m. Come prepared for a 1-hour hike of easy to moderate difficulty. Reserve a tour time in advance by contacting us at 403-762-6246 or email mobilelab@banffcentre.ca Drop-ins will be accommodated as space allows.

The Banff Mobile History Tour

Add a fun and informative dimension to local lore through a locative audio tour of the colourful history of downtown Banff. The locative audio tour will play automatically on cell phones.
