Marsalis himself is a trumpeter of rare ability and a consummate artist, known equally for his playing and for his composing, teaching, and arts advocacy. Marsalis has won nine Grammys for both classical and jazz recordings and is the recipient of the Pulitzer Prize in Music, the only person to have ever received it for jazz.
