Pierre Brault

Spellbinding... must-see show captures the essence of [Lenny] Breau...  As finely executed as it is conceived.  Don’t miss it.

The Ottawa Citizen

Expertly crafted, multi-dimensional, fueled by intelligence and energy.

— CBC Radio

Truly one of the most amazing stage performances I have ever seen. I did not watch a one man show last night, I watched a full 7-hander, with brilliantly mastered sets, and the entire multi-talented cast in full dress. He had the entire audience transfixed from beginning to end.

The Vancouver Sun raves that Pierre Brault’s “writing is profound and his performance electric.” In 5 O’Clock Bells he interprets the life of guitar legend Lenny Breau, who in his tragically brief time revolutionized the world of the guitar, and whose child-like innocence left him vulnerable to dark forces.

Lenny Breau was a brilliant guitar innovator whose life was entwined with four decades of Canadian and American musical history. In his tragically short life he revolutionized the whole approach to the guitar and today his influence is still keenly felt, stretching from country to rock to flamenco and especially jazz.  Lenny was found dead in a Los Angeles pool in 1984. His murder remains unsolved.

Based on the original co-production with the Great Canadian Theatre Company, and directed by Brian Quirt, 5 O’Clock Bells was developed in part during the 2007 Banff Playwrights Colony at The Banff Centre.
