"I walked away from this experience inspired, excited, and with a new eye and mind for storytelling and filmmaking. I walked in with a project and by the time I left the workshop, my 'project' had rapidly developed into a creation that I know will be successful. After all, How could I go wrong with faculty like Keith and Michael and with a talented and dynamic group of peers?"

2012 Adventure Filmmakers’ Workshop

The Adventure Filmmakers’ Workshop is an exceptional chance for independent and emerging filmmakers to turn their project into reality, under the guidance of two of the world’s premiere adventure filmmakers. During a jam-packed eight days this fall, you’ll build relationships, network with fellow artists, and mingle with industry insiders and decision-makers, all within the core of the Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival. You’ll also have full access to Festival events — motivation galore!

Plus, the workshop can include on-campus lodging and all meals provided — all you’ll have to do is focus on your craft and soak up the inspiration.

Sessions will help you hone your vision, organize your workflow plan, develop audio, narrative, and editing techniques, and perfect your pitch. Our faculty promotes an open, interactive, and creative atmosphere. Days are packed with hands-on practice, lively discussion, and brainstorming — and evenings include film screenings, guest speakers, and social events.

The workshop is designed for filmmakers, directors, and producers. To get the most from the workshop, an applicant should have enough experience in film production to have thought about and recognize the need for distribution and financing.

Some of the past participants include elite athletes interested in transitioning to filmmaking, expeditionists wanting to expand to different media platforms, and filmmakers wanting to break into the adventure genre.
