Inspired by surrealists across artforms, including Kurt Vonnegut, David Lynch, and Remedios Varo (Kue Varo’s namesake), Kue’s technicolour songs know no bounds. With a keen eye and a witty pen, Kue tackles everything from sensuality to religion to disinformation. What emerges are kinetic odes to the power of art itself, the stakes made clear when they belt: “the economy wishes it could be the god of every fate / But nothing beats the thrill of making what begs to be made.”
Kue Varo’s songs show the power of art as a lens for exploring and reclaiming ourselves. Their music captures the absurd complexity of being alive right now and invites playful exploration into the picture. As Kue puts it: “We need joy for our rage.”
Jadé’s unique genre-bending sound is influenced by her heritage as a Nigerian-Canadian, love for all forms of dance music, and a desire to sonically showcase the cultural links and journeys throughout music over time. From soulful roots and rhythms in house, disco, r&b, and hip hop, to the faster paced global club music of today reflecting the world. Her Aim: a dance floor as a place of joy, connection, and self expression for all, tied together with a groove.
Her love for inclusivity within music spaces culminated in her co-founding of Back & Forth, a female powered collective aimed at creating more opportunities for women DJs through events and workshops. You can find Jadé on Fridays at her weekly residency Fresh Squeeze at Sweet Loretta Bar in Calgary.
Rob Faust is a Calgary-based DJ and enduring presence in the city’s underground—an “accidental DJ” who left his graduate studies to follow a deeper pull toward music. For over three decades, he has cut through rooms including The Embassy, Hifi Club, Night Gallery, Republik, Bamboo Tiki Room, and Sweet Loretta, shaping nights through instinct, memory, and feel.
He is the founder of FLASHLIGHT, a weekly cabaret/loft party that evolved into a word-of-mouth fixture, and host of Electric Company on CJSW. At Sweet Loretta, he holds down the Friday night The Express. His sets surf across jazz, funk, disco, house, and hip hop—shaped on the fly, gone as it happens.

This faculty- and participant-led event brings together films, performances, and DJ sets to explore nightlife as a space of community building.
Through nightclubbing, boundaries dissolve and the club emerges as an open site of freedom, encounter, and collective expression: bodies gather, rhythms connect, and community is forged in the dark.
The event stems from Nomadisms, a project-based residency that provides mentorship and studio time to visual artists working in a wide range of possible mediums, including ceramics, digital media, painting, performance art, and sculpture.
The residency invites artists to engage with the theme of nomadism as both a critical and aesthetic framework. Across their collaborations and creations, participants approach nomadism as a site of inquiry and a form of attentiveness to the earth.
Visual Arts is supported by Fondation DRG and the Gail and Stephen A. Jarislowsky Outstanding Artist Program.
