Flute and guitar duo, Duo Beija-Flor, performs works based on universal emotions and stories expressed through the lens of the world’s many cultures. Their program Costas brings into focus the rich variety of melodies and rhythms found throughout the Latin world. Strolling naturally from the tango halls of Buenos Aires to the beaches of Rio, from the four corners of Spain to Havana’s carnival, Costas meanders between the light-footed and the profound.

This program explores the intersection of musical and human language to initiate social change, featuring contemporary works and original compositions for solo percussion. With an emphasis on the power of amplifying voices, this 45-minute program addresses various socio-political topics through storytelling by percussionist Britton-René Collins. Themes include anti-racism, environmentalism, and accessibility.

Biographies
Duo Beija-Flor

Flute and guitar duo, Duo Beija-Flor, presents a dynamic repertoire of works inspired by universal emotions and stories expressed through the lens of the world’s many cultures. This fresh and modern take on nationalistic music has led to performances across Canada, the United States, Argentina, and Costa Rica as well as several appearances on radio and tv programs. Flutist Marie-Noëlle ChoqueLe and guitarist Charles Hobson created the duo during their graduate studies and have since released three albums. Their latest, Costas, was released in September 2018 with the American label, Big Round Records and has garnered rave reviews from critics and listeners alike. Recipients of several awards and grants, they were recently selected to be one of the Prairie Debut artists for the 2020-21 season which will see them perform for the first time in the Canadian Prairies.
Britton-René Collins
Percussionist Britton-René Collins has dedicated her artistry to shaping an equitable community for all musicians to thrive equally. A winner of the 2020 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition, she was awarded the Ambassador Prize for exceptional musicianship and demonstrating an active passion for creating social change through her music.
Britton-René is also passionate about expanding modern percussion repertoire. As a composer and advocate for new music, her current projects involve premiering new compositions and commissions for multi-percussion and marimba, including during her debut PASIC Artist appearance at the 2021 Percussive Arts Society International Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. Recent highlights include attending the soundSCAPE new music composition and performance exchange in Cesena, Italy, and participating in the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity's Evolution: Classical program. As an artist, Britton-René proudly endorses Vic Firth sticks and mallets, Zildjian cymbals, and Marimba One instruments.
Dastoor Woods Duo

Formed in 2020 at the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, the Dastoor-Woods Duo is made up of Canadian violinist Daniel Dastoor and American pianist Brian Woods. Inspired by their passion for chamber music, Dastoor and Woods look forward to performances in both Canada and the United States, as well as competitive appearances both as soloists and as a pair. The Duo already boasts a wide repertoire, encompassing works from the Classical era to the 21st Century, and has recorded in such prestigious venues as Koerner Hall. Originally from Montreal, Daniel Dastoor currently studies with Paul Kantor and Barry Shiffman at the Glenn Gould School, pursuing an Artist Diploma. Brian Woods recently graduated from the Glenn Gould School, where he studied with John O’Conor, and currently lives in St. Louis, Missouri, where he is actively working as a soloist and chamber musician.
