The 48th Annual Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival will be held from October 28 through to November 5, 2023, bringing stories of adventure and exploration from around the world to Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies.

The 2023 nine-day Festival will feature over 80 epic films (including World and North American premieres), live in-person events with adventurers, authors, photographers, and filmmakers sharing their inspiring stories, online film passes, an expanded Festival Marketplace (including the new Rab stage hosting free presentations), happy hours with music, campfire conversations with special guests, downtown events and exhibitions, and much more!
This year’s Festival speakers include:
Two of the world’s most prolific climbers kick off the Festival on opening night, Sonnie Trotter (CAN) and Ashima Shiraishi (USA). Alpinist Leo Houlding (UK) shares stories from his latest book, Closer to the Edge, which takes us on a whirlwind journey from Venezuela to Antarctica to Baffin Island and back to the Lake District in the UK to meet his young family. High altitude veteran climber Mingma G Sherpa (Nepal) joins us for an on-stage conversation with local climber and author Geoff Powter in the annual Voices of Adventure interview. Legendary snowboarder and founder of Protect our Winters Jeremy Jones (USA) joins us on-stage to talk about his new book The Art of Shralpinism: Lessons from the Mountain. And snowboard renegade Jess Kimura (CAN), who has changed the game for women and whose legacy extends far beyond her accomplishments on snow.

This year’s festival will be chock full of great events here in Banff. We’re bringing some rising stars to the stage, but longtime fans will also recognize some familiar faces from festivals past. There will be a new, free events stage in our expanded tradeshow, and of course, as always, there will be a stellar line-up of film and book presentations.

Joanna Croston, Festival & World Tour Director
