La soprano Suzanne Taffot, originaire du Cameroun, se distingue par son timbre riche et coloré, son aisance sur scène et ses interprétations convaincantes.
Trois fois lauréate des Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyriques, Suzanne Taffot s’est mérité une quinzaine de prix et de bourses, dont la bourse lyrique Québec-Bavière, la bourse de la Fondation des Jeunesses Musicales du Canada et la bourse Francis Poulenc L20. Suzanne Taffot est lauréate de plusieurs concours internationaux, notamment ceux de Riccardo Zandonai et d’Alcamo en Italie, en France, et du concours Tchèque et Slovaque aux États-Unis.
Suzanne Taffot a fait ses débuts avec l’Orchestre Métropolitain dans le Requiem de Fauré, sous la direction de Yannick Nézet-Séguin. En Janvier 2020, elle chante à l’Opéra de Limoges et elle fait sa seconde apparition avec l’Orchestre Philharmonique de Kosice en Slovaquie, en plus d’une tournée en Chine avec le Théâtre Lyrichorégra 20.
En mars 2019, Suzanne Taffot a remporté un vif succès au Théatre Gärtenerplaz de Munich. Elle a également chanté au gala des Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyriques avec l’Orchestre philharmonique des musiciens de Montréal.
En Mars 2022 elle tiendra le rôle de Micaela avec l’Orchestre Classique de Montreal, sous la direction du Maestro Boris Brott.
Love is the only force
Last spring was decisive in the choice of my project. After having landed in the world of classical music and especially opera completely at random, I really did not focus on music composed by composers of colours because, I really did not have any models. For me, singing music written by black compositor meant singing gospel or jazz. I wanted to highlight the fact that in classical music, there is not only music made by Mozart, Puccini etc…There is also music made by others compositors; I did some research to listen to arias or melodies composed by black composers and I did not find that many. So I decided to record these arias and melodies unknown to the public because I thought of future generations who would like to focus on this type of repertoire. I also said to myself that I would like to record music composed by Canadians because it is also difficult to find music composed by Canadians on traditional platforms. The project therefore aims to highlight these "treasures" and bring out the important message of these songs. It aims to remember our past, to embrace it, but above all to draw from it all the lessons of resilience, determination, strength, hope and love notwithstanding all the difficulties that our ancestors encountered. It is an album that will cross space and time, and which will make us remember that after all, only love, compassion, service, and openness to others will allow us to achieve true happiness in our lives. It is also an album that aims to celebrate music written by black composers to celebrate diversity in the arts and consequently, to achieve representativeness in the arts.
It is the first time I was able to be creative about my project and took the time to formulate, search and think about what i wanted to do, what I wanted to create as an artist and also what legacy I wanted to leave after...
