Banff Centre Announces Ingrid Mary Percy as New Director of Visual Arts Residencies

Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity is thrilled to announce Ingrid Mary Percy as its new Director of Visual Arts Residencies. Ingrid’s role will be in overseeing all programming and residencies within the Visual Arts realm at the Centre. “Ingrid has an outstanding track record as an educator at the post-secondary level, as an administrator, an artist, and an arts advocate.” Says Mark Wold, Dean of Arts and Leadership Programming. “She’s deeply committed to the Canadian visual arts scene and we look forward to having her experience and passion as we deepen our visual arts programming.”
For over two decades, Ingrid has been a practicing visual artist, educator and cultural leader in Canada, exhibiting her work locally, nationally and internationally, and working in post-secondary institutions (the University of Victoria, Emily Carr University of Art + Design, and Memorial University of Newfoundland). Ingrid’s research interests include public engagement, experiential learning and art education in post-secondary learning environments.
Visual Arts at Banff Centre offers exceptional programs for professional artists, curators, art critics and researchers, as well as practicum opportunities for emerging practitioners. Visual Arts also supports, develops, and presents contemporary art through the Walter Phillips Gallery. The on-campus residency programs provide the time, studio space, facilities, feedback, and engagement with peers and faculty to hone artistic development. Both thematic and self-directed programs encourage experimentation and exploration of ideas, theory, and process.

Ingrid also writes, curates, and plays music. A strong believer in community service and advocacy, Ingrid has served on the boards of numerous non-profits including Open Space, Eastern Edge, Visual Artists Newfoundland and Labrador, and Canadian Artists’ Representation/Les front des artistes canadiens (CARFAC) National, where she was Vice-President, President, and Past-President.
Ingrid was Chair of the Visual Arts Program, Graduate Officer of the MFA Program and Associate Professor in the Visual Arts Program in the School of Fine Arts at Memorial University of Newfoundland and, most recently, Interim Dean of the School of Fine Arts.

More about Ingrid:
Ingrid was born in Calgary, Alberta (on Treaty 7 Territory). She is a first-generation Canadian with dual Irish/Canadian citizenship. Ingrid grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia (Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations), where she received a BFA and Diploma in Fine Art from the Emily Carr University of Art + Design. Later, she moved to Victoria, British Columbia (lək̓ʷəŋən territory) and earned an MFA in Painting from the University of Victoria.
