The Visual Arts Open Lecture Series presents talks by leading Canadian and international artists, curators, and academics.

Join Deirdre Logue and Allyson Mitchell, faculty for the Spring Banff Artist in Residence (BAiR) 2024 Visual Arts program, for an afternoon talk.

In this lecture, each artist will present on their individual artistic practice.

Focusing on the self as subject, Deirdre Logue uses performance for the camera as a primary mode of inquiry to create films and videos that investigate the queer body in the age of anxiety.

Logue holds a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and an MFA from Kent State University. In addition to showing her work nationally and internationally for over 20 years, Logue has contributed decades to working with artist-run organizations in media arts as a founding member of Media City, the Executive Director of the Images Festival, Executive Director of the CFMDC, founding member of the Media Arts Network of Ontario (MANO), and the current Development Director at Vtape. As a champion of artist rights, Logue has held positions with CARFAC National and the Independent Media Arts Alliance. Logue directs the F.A.G. Feminist Art Gallery with her partner, collaborator, and artist Allyson Mitchell.

Allyson Mitchell is a maximalist artist working in sculpture, performance, installation, and film. Her practice melds feminism and pop culture to investigate contemporary ideas about sexuality, autobiography, and the body, largely using reclaimed textile and abandoned craft. Mitchell is an Associate Professor in the School of Women’s Studies at York University. She runs F.A.G. Feminist Art Gallery with Deirdre Logue.
