Rocky Mountain Cooperative Housing (RMCH)

This accommodation is located at 102 Birch Avenue, which is next to the Bow River and close to the downtown core. Surrounded by spectacular mountain views, a short walk from Banff's Recreation Grounds (home to baseball diamonds, tennis courts, picnic sites, and our community greenhouse), and only a 20 minute walk to Banff Centre. Units are apartment style.

  • One bedroom units - shared basis (two Banff Centre employees)

  • Single room occupancy may be requested. However, it is subject to availability and a wait list

  • Kitchen table and chairs
  • Full kitchen 

Exclusions

  • Available to Banff Centre employees only
  • Telephone and Internet are NOT provided. It is up to the residents to contact Shaw or Telus for setup
  • No pets/ No smoking
  • Individuals under the age of eighteen (18) are not eligible for employee housing
  • Part-time employees are not eligible

Rates

  • One bedroom units are $963 per month or $481.50 per person / per month. Security deposit of $240.75 per person.
  • Two bedroom units are $600 per month / per single room. Security deposit of $200 per person.
  • Three bedroom units $530 per month per room single occupancy only. Security deposit of $200 per person.
  • No bed kits sold at the RMCH

Security deposits are due upon check-in and can be paid by cash or cheque only. Cheques are payable to Banff Centre. Salaried employees will be required to pay a prorated amount to cover rent until payroll deductions can begin.

Getting around

  • 20 minute walk to Banff Centre
  • 5 minute walk to downtown Banff
  • No public transit between the RMCH and Banff Centre
  • Many employees will commute either on foot or by bicycle

YWCA of Banff

At the YWCA of Banff, the third floor of the Oreo Building is designated for Banff Centre employees exclusively. These 12 single rooms boast stunning views of Rundle, Norquay, Sulphur, and Tunnel mountain. The YWCA is a 20 minute walk to Banff Centre.

  • Three full communal bathrooms; two with showers and one with a bathtub/shower
  • Furnished communal living room
  • Full communal kitchen with two stoves, fridges, microwaves and four sinks
  • The YWCA has laundry facilities, 24/7 front desk service, security,  and a ATM machine
  • Telephone and internet are NOT provided.  It is up to the resident  to contact Shaw or Telus for setup.

Getting around

  • 20 minute walk to Banff Centre with no public transit to the Centre available
  • 10 minute walk to downtown
  • Many employee will buy a bike to use for commuting

Moving In

Staff Housing

When it's time to move into your accommodations there are a few details you should be aware of.

  1. Eligibility for housing is subject to a clear Criminal Record Check (CRC). The CRC must be submitted to Employee Housing no later than your move-in day. If the CRC is only required for housing purposes then you will be responsible for the cost of the CRC. See FAQ for details on how to obtain one. 

    If you are a returning employee that has left less than six months ago your CRC is still valid and you do not require a new one.

  2. Housing is available two days before your first day of work. Once travel plans have been confirmed, contact Employee Housing to book a check-in appointment. Please keep in mind Housing office hours are: 9:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. daily with the last appointments of the day scheduled for 4:30p.m. On arrival you will receive a housing orientation, and a tour of the accommodation to familiarize you with your surroundings.
  3. Regardless of which type of accommodation you choose, employees will need to provide the following:
    • Bedding for a single bed (sheets, blankets, pillow) This can be purchased at the time of check-in for new Don Becker residents ONLY. 
    • Personal toiletries (towels, soap, toilet paper, etc.)
    • Cookware/kitchenware, if you plan to cook your own meals
    • Cleaning products to maintain the space
  4. A valid work visa will be accepted for foreign applicants for one month from the original work visa issue date. After this time, foreign workers are required to obtain a CRC issued by a Canadian law enforcement authority.

Due to the limited space available accommodation cannot be guaranteed as part of your employment.
