"When you come here, you feel like somebody out there thinks that art is important! You feel affirmed, you feel legitimized, you feel nurtured, and you feel heard—and that is all powerful stuff! I don’t know how to make a show anymore without bringing it here…"
Crystal Pite
"One thing I did not anticipate coming in was how emotional this journey would be. It took many tears, self-discovery and mistakes to make it through. I realized how my loss of culture has impacted my life and my work. However, the beauty and culture of everyone I worked with, designers, faculty and staff, inspired me so much, and I'm so thankful for all of them."
Heather Bouchier (Tour Edit)
"It's a wonderful, wonderful experience to be here."
Filmmaker Darcy Hennessey Turenne, North Shore Betty

Andrew Adridge
"Beyond the making process, my time in this residency has been life-changing. It taught me so much about how realistic and feasible having a career as an artist can be. Getting to meet successful art world professionals and receiving advice and guidance from them was priceless. It also reaffirmed how passionate I am about ceramics and how much more of my time I want to dedicate to it."
Jonah Strub
“I am honoured to give back to a place that has given me so much.”
Megumi Masaki
In today’s world, being a successful musician demands more than instrumental excellence. Musicians need skills in communication, multimedia, digital tools, leadership, and entrepreneurship. Traditional universities often overlook these essentials. That’s why Banff Centre’s faculty mentors artists comprehensively—nurturing cross-genre collaboration, storytelling, and social entrepreneurship; leveraging online platforms to reach a global audience; learning from Indigenous wise practices; and being change-makers for a better world.
One of Ireland’s leading classical pianists, Seán Morgan-Rooney, had his eyes opened to the innovative possibilities of merging film, digital media, and piano to enhance and share his work. Following mentoring sessions, Seán created a brilliant first film featuring his performance of Ravel’s Miroirs, complemented by his original compositions for piano and electronics, which he is using to create new engagement opportunities
John Wort Hannam, an award-winning Canadian singer-songwriter, successfully broke a creative drought to write many new songs through Banff Centre’s peaceful and inspiring setting, and the energy of the community of musicians in residence. Shortly after his time in residency, John won two 2023 Canadian Folk Music Awards.
Magic happens here—like nowhere else on earth—through the connection with people, the programs, and the place on Sacred Buffalo Guardian Mountain. Your support of Banff Centre’s Artist Fund—a fund dedicated to supporting artists and arts programs at Banff Centre—gives artists a safe place to take risks. A place to untether creativity. A place to learn through the opportunity to fail, while they push boundaries to learn new skills.
Perhaps most importantly—Banff Centre is a place to create new work that stimulates discourse and connects us as humans with pressing issues of our time. The world needs more of the vision, creativity, and extraordinary collaborations that can only happen at Banff Centre. It’s through the cumulative support of donors like you, that we’re able to cover the cost of delivering the transformative training and life-changing experiences artists need for a successful, future-looking career.
As we embark on Banff Centre’s 90th Anniversary together, please consider offering your support today! Thank you for being part of this incredible Banff Centre community.
