A: Due to moving the festival and world tour content online, we’ve created a brand new video-on-demand platform where you can stream festival and world tour content –filmfest.banffcentre.ca. At different times of year there will be different content on this platform – but the festival will be at its usual time of year, October 31 to November 8.
A: You’ll be prompted to create an account when you make a purchase. This will save your purchase history and make it easy for you to see all of the content available for you.
You can also sign up for the free festival subscription, which will give you access to gems from the festival archives, short films about Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, and more information about our valued partners. It’s not necessary to sign up for a free subscription in order to purchase a program.
A: Check out the help page here for lots of useful information: https://filmfest.banffcentre.ca/help
Q: I tried logging in with my usual Vimeo account but it won’t work for me.
A: Our platform is powered by Vimeo but not connected to vimeo.com. You’ll need to create a new account for our platform.
Q: How can I watch content on the platform?
A: You can watch via the website, and there will also be an ioS and Android app (which will be released before the festival). Content will need to be purchased through the web platform, and then you can log into your account and watch via the apps.
For information about how to watch content on smart TVs, check out this article: https://filmfest.banffcentre.ca/help/articles/how-do-i-watch-on-my-smar…
Q: How long will I have to watch festival content?
A: Check the description for each event on https://www.banffcentre.ca/online-festival. Some events will be available for 9 days, some will be released throughout the week and be available until the end of the festival, and some will have restricted viewing periods (e.g. 24 hours only). The viewing period for all content running until the end of the festival will end at 11:59pm MST on November 8, 2020.
Q: Will I be able to download the content?
A: No, content will only be available to stream through the platform.
Q: I want to buy a Gift. I see there’s an option for gifting on the checkout page, how does that work?
A: If you’re a US resident and want to send a festival or World Tour product to someone special, you can gift a transaction to them. You will make the purchase and they’ll receive an email with information about how to watch the product. Note that this function is unfortunately currently only available for US purchasers and recipients.
Festival Passes and Programs
Q: When can I buy passes to the festival, and when can I watch programs?
A: Festival passes (an all-inclusive pass with all festival content) will be available for sale on Oct 1, with content being released from October 31 (some content will have restricted viewing periods).
Individual events will be available for sale from October 31, and the product description will state the available viewing period for each product (some products will be available for the full 9 days of the festival, while other products will have restricted viewing periods).
Q: I see a program listed on your website but when I click on the ‘Rent Now’ button, it doesn’t take me anywhere on the platform – what’s wrong?
A: Some programs are georestricted, and they won’t display on the platform based on your location. Check the event listing on the Banff Centre website to see if your country is listed on the restrictions. For more information, check out this article: https://filmfest.banffcentre.ca/help/watching/why-am-i-getting-an-error…
Q: What currency will rentals be in?
A: 2020 festival content will be priced in Canadian dollars and US dollars. If you’re accessing the content in Canada, you’ll see the Canadian price; if you’re anywhere else in the world, you’ll be charged in USD.
