Internationally acclaimed trumpeter Jens Lindemann returns to Banff Centre for an extraordinary evening celebrating the brilliance, versatility, and legacy of the trumpet. Presented in two acts, the program celebrates the legacy of the trumpet while showcasing new musical creation, a world-premiere preview of The Mountain Suite.
“He played with golden timbre and virtuosic flair” —New York Times
“it was one of the most memorable recitals in International Trumpet Guild history”—ITG
“he gave the virtuoso highlight of the evening with the Montreal Symphony” —Montreal Gazette
“performed brilliantly in the North American premiere of Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s Concerto with the Toronto Symphony” —Toronto Star
“a world-class talent” —Los Angeles Times
The first classical brass soloist to receive the Order of Canada, Lindemann has been hailed as one of the most celebrated artists in his instrument’s history. From Carnegie Hall to the Great Wall of China, and from the orchestras of London and Berlin to Montreal and Toronto, his remarkable career has taken him to the world’s great stages.
For this special performance, Lindemann is joined by an exceptional ensemble of Canadian musicians, including acclaimed drummer Dave Pierce and pianist and musical director Kristian Alexandrov, for a program that moves between jazz and classical traditions while paying tribute to some of the great voices of the trumpet.
The evening will feature a tribute to the trumpet greats, alongside a performance of Oscar Peterson’s Canadiana Suite — the legendary Canadian pianist and composer’s musical portrait of the country.
Audiences will also be among the first to experience a world-premiere preview of The Mountain Suite, a new original composition by Lindemann being developed during a residency at Banff Centre in the week leading up to the performance. Inspired and shaped in the mountains, this first glimpse of the new work brings the creative process from the residency directly to the stage.
With a deep connection to Banff Centre as both an artist and mentor, Lindemann’s return brings together musical legacy and new creation — celebrating the trumpet’s past while offering audiences a first look at what comes next.
