The Visual Arts Lecture Series presents talks by leading Canadian and international artists, curators, and academics.

Join artist, curator, Whess Harman, member of the Carrier Wit’at Nation, and faculty for the Visual Arts Thematic Residency – Get LIT! Language, Image, Text for an afternoon talk.

Working primarily in drawing, text, and textiles, Harman’s colourful, graphic artworks are politically charged statements, asserting his belief in land sovereignty for Indigenous peoples across the globe. Contributing to the cultural sector as Curator at grunt gallery and an occasional editor, Harman prioritizes emerging queer and BIPOC cultural workers and artists, and looks to art as one of many tools to fight oppressive forces. Harman currently resides on the traditional territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh peoples.
