Yoko Oike-Wong was a student of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, a Japanese violinist who believed that children could learn to play music before learning to read. In July 1965, Oike-Wong presented two Suzuki method sessions at Banff Centre, some of the earliest held in Canada. After her time teaching in Banff, Okie-Wong moved to Edmonton, where she continued to teach violin until she retired in 2008.
Oike-Wong is pictured here teaching a violin lesson to students on the lawn in front of our Donald Cameron Hall, overlooking the Bourgeau Range.
