History of Leadership

Hone your leadership approach and advance your creative potential to enrich our world.

Banff Centre is a champion of arts and creativity, and Banff Centre Leadership programs prepare and empower leaders to make an impact in a rapidly shifting world. Our programs integrate the power of the arts, the wisdom of Indigenous practice, and the extraordinary beauty of Banff National Park. Programs connect participants with others who share their commitment to positive change in arts, Indigenous communities, businesses, non-profit organizations, and government.

As we continue to navigate the changing landscape initiated by the COVID-19 pandemic, Banff Centre remains committed to offering programming that advances creative potential. Our focus as a multidisciplinary educational institution will be in offering core programming across artistic disciplines and Indigenous Leadership, in mountain culture, and the environment. To this end, Banff Centre has made the difficult decision to discontinue the Certificate of Leadership Practice and as such, we will no longer be offering the following Leadership Intensives:

  • Foundations of Purpose*
  • Leading by Design**
  • Leading in the Middle***
  • Contextual Intelligence

We wish to both acknowledge the efforts and thank the faculty and program teams who had been bringing these programs to life. We know many of you will be exploring other providers to support your leadership development, and we hope you will consider the offerings of our contributors including Wolf Willow Institute* , The Leadership Collaboratory**, and Watershed Organizational Development Group Inc***.

We recognize, with deep respect and gratitude, our home on the side of Sacred Buffalo Guardian Mountain. In the spirit of respect and truth, we honour and acknowledge the Banff area, known as “Minihrpa” (translated in Stoney Nakoda as “the waterfalls”) and the Treaty 7 territory and oral practices of the Îyârhe Nakoda (Stoney Nakoda) – comprised of the Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Goodstoney Nations – as well as the Tsuut’ina First Nation and the Blackfoot Confederacy comprised of the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai. We acknowledge that this territory is home to the Shuswap Nations, Ktunaxa Nations, and Metis Nation of Alberta, Rockyview District 4. We acknowledge all Nations who live, work, and play here, help us steward this land, and honour and celebrate this place.
