Singing Only Softly is a chamber opera/song cycle inspired by previously redacted sections of Anne
Frank's diary. The opera focuses on Anne maturing during her time in the 'secret annex': a young
woman's coming of age amidst horrifying circumstances.

In this scene, Anne has a dialogue with herself, questioning the new day awakening outside her window
and the awakening within herself.
