Peter Lougheed Leadership Institute launches social change summit

Banff, Alberta, March 11, 2015 -- Over 150 business executives, First Nations leaders, not-for-profits, elected officials, activist athletes, authors and speakers will gather at Banff Centre on Friday, March 27 for the inaugural Hope Decoded Summit. A new initiative of the Peter Lougheed Leadership Institute, the Hope Decoded Summit provides a forum for fostering hope around some of the most complex societal issues of our time: income inequality, Indigenous rights, culture, and the environment.
The Hope Decoded Summit is the culmination of a week-long social innovation residency at Banff Centre designed to support organizations and people leading long-term social change initiatives that contribute to the well-being and resiliency of communities, thanks to the generous support of Suncor Energy Foundation.
“In order to look beyond challenges and find solutions, we need to seek out diverse perspectives, promote new voices, and bring people together to co-create innovative ideas,” said Dan Buchner, vice president, Peter Lougheed Leadership Institute at Banff Centre. “We are excited to work with a group of passionate and action-oriented advocates who want to affect change to build better organizations and a better society. These are the type of leaders our communities, institutions, businesses, governments and our world needs.”
Throughout the day, special guests The Winnipeg Boldness Project, Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, Homeward Trust Edmonton, and CoalitionWILD will share their experiences in grassroots social innovation. The conversation around fostering hope will be framed by high quality entertainment, remarkable storytellers, interactive educational sessions, and the chance to connect with fellow leaders.
“It will be a stimulating day of dialogue that can foster hope across all sectors in our society,” said Hope Decoded program director, and founder of the Spirit Bear Youth Coalition, Simon Jackson. “Many of the problems that we face do not comfortably fit within a given domain or discipline. Effective leadership increasingly requires the convening of unique voices, the integration of diverse interests, and the holding of space so that new ideas can thrive – which is what makes this event so unique.”
